Monkeying Around: Your Ultimate 'Planet of the Apes' Marathon Guide
Alright, buddy, let's get down to business. You've got a 'Planet of the Apes' marathon planned, and you want to know the best order to watch 'em? Well, grab your bananas, 'cause we're swinging through time and space to find out!
Original Series: The OG Apes
First things first, let's tackle the original series. You've got five films here, and the order's pretty straightforward:
- Planet of the Apes (1968): Kick things off with the OG. Astronaut George Taylor crash-lands on a planet where apes rule, and humans are... well, you know.
- Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970)
- Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971)
- Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972)
- Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973)
See, the sequels follow a neat little timeline. We start with Taylor's arrival, then flashback to how the apes took over, and finally, we see the future of the human-ape war.

Timeline Tangents: The Remakes and Reboots
Now, things get a bit hairy with the remakes and reboots. You've got three options here, and the order's up to you:
- Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011): This prequel kicks off the modern series. We meet Caesar, the super-intelligent ape, and watch as he leads his fellow apes to freedom.
- Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)
- War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)
You can watch these in release order, or skip straight to 'Dawn' if you want to dive right into the ape vs. human conflict. But here's a fun fact: 'Rise' is a direct prequel to the original series! Caesar's dad, Cornelius, even appears in 'Battle'. Mind. Blown.
