Where Do The Zodiac Symbols Come From

Hey there, curious mind! Ever looked up at the night sky and wondered, "Where on Earth do these zodiac symbols come from?" Well, buckle up, 'cause we're about to dive into a star-studded journey through time and myth. Grab your thinking cap, and let's get started!

Back to the Future: Babylonians and Greeks

Alright, imagine it's around 1500 BCE. You're in ancient Babylon, sipping on some date wine (because, you know, they didn't have fancy lattes back then). The Babylonians were the original astrologers, dividing the zodiac into 12 signs based on their constellations and the seasons. Clever folks, right?

Now, fast forward to around 300 BCE. Hello, Greece! The Greeks picked up this zodiac ball and ran with it. They named the signs after their mythological heroes and creatures, giving us symbols like Aries the Ram (named after the god of war) and Taurus the Bull (dedicated to the goddess Hera's sacred animal).

Signs of the Times: The Zodiac Wheel

So, how did we end up with the zodiac wheel we know today? Well, the Babylonians and Greeks had a bit of a disagreement on the start of the zodiac. The Babylonians kicked things off with Aries, but the Greeks began their zodiac with Capricorn. To solve this cosmic conundrum, they shifted the signs around, creating the 360-degree zodiac wheel we use today.

And here's a fun fact for you: The zodiac signs are not equal in size! Some signs, like Scorpio and Pisces, are about 30 degrees, while others, like Capricorn and Aquarius, are a whopping 31 degrees. Mind-blowing, right?
