So, I was at this convention last weekend, right? You know the kind, where everyone's dressed up as their favorite characters, and you can't tell if you're in a sci-fi episode or a real-life episode of "Cosplay: The Series". Anyway, I was there, minding my own business, when this kid, maybe 10 years old, comes up to me, eyes wide as saucers, and asks, "Are you a Doctor?"
Now, I'm not one to disappoint a young Whovian, so I put on my best "exterminate" voice and say, "Indeed, I am. But which Doctor am I?"
He looks me up and down, takes in my bow tie and suspenders, and says, "You're the Eleventh!"
Must Read
And that, my friends, is how I realized I needed to brush up on my Doctor Who knowledge. Because, let's face it, even though we all have our favorites, it's important to know them all, right? So, grab a cup of tea (or a sonic screwdriver, if you've got one handy), and let's take a little trip through the TARDIS, shall we?
Before We Begin...
First things first, if you're new to the Whoniverse, welcome! You're in for a wild ride. But before we dive in, let's get a few things straight. This isn't your average show. It's a bit like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're gonna get. One minute it's funny, the next it's scary, and the next, you're crying like a baby because the Doctor just did something incredibly sweet and selfless. It's a rollercoaster, and it's amazing.
Now, let's talk Doctors. The Doctor, for those who don't know, is a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey. When they're injured, they can regenerate, which means they get a new body and a new personality. Hence, the many faces of the Doctor. So, without further ado, let's meet them all!
The Classic Series
The First Doctor (William Hartnell)
Our story begins with the grumpy old man of the Whoniverse, the First Doctor. He's a bit of a curmudgeon, but he's got a heart of gold. He's the one who starts the whole "I'm not a doctor, I'm the Doctor" thing, and he's the one who kicks off the show's run from 1963 to 1989. If you're looking for a classic, old-school Doctor Who experience, this is where it's at.
The Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton)
Next up, we have the Second Doctor, who's a bit of a trickster. He's got a laugh like a hyena and a penchant for dressing up in silly outfits. He's also the one who introduces the sonic screwdriver, which becomes a staple of the show. If you're a fan of the "it's bigger on the inside" line, you've got the Second Doctor to thank.
The Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee)
The Third Doctor is a bit of a dashing fellow. He's got a cool car (the Bessie), a fancy coat, and a knack for getting into trouble. He's also the one who introduces the Master, the Doctor's arch-nemesis. If you're looking for some classic Doctor Who action, with a bit of a James Bond vibe, this is your guy.

The Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker)
Now, we're talking. The Fourth Doctor is a fan favorite for a reason. He's got the iconic scarf, the jelly babies, and the "allons-y!" catchphrase. He's also the one who introduces the Sontaran Styre, who's basically a potato with a face. If you're looking for some classic Doctor Who weirdness, this is where it's at.
The Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison)
The Fifth Doctor is a bit of a change of pace. He's more serious, more introspective. He's also the one who introduces the Cybermen, which is never a good thing. If you're looking for some darker Doctor Who, this is your guy.
The Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker)
The Sixth Doctor is a bit of a hothead. He's got a loud mouth and a tendency to get into trouble. He's also the one who introduces the Rani, who's basically a female version of the Master. If you're looking for some loud, colorful Doctor Who, this is your guy.
The Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy)
The Seventh Doctor is a bit of a mystery. He's got a secret agenda, and he's not afraid to use people to get what he wants. He's also the one who introduces the Cheetah People, which is just as weird as it sounds. If you're looking for some complex, morally grey Doctor Who, this is your guy.
The Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann)
The Eighth Doctor is a bit of a tragic figure. He's the one who saves the day, but at a great personal cost. He's also the one who introduces the Dalek Emperor, which is never a good thing. If you're looking for some emotional, heart-wrenching Doctor Who, this is your guy.
The War Doctor (John Hurt)
Now, things get a bit complicated. The War Doctor is a bit of an anomaly. He's the Doctor during the Time War, the great conflict between the Time Lords and the Daleks. He's the one who makes the big sacrifice to save the day. If you're looking for some dark, gritty Doctor Who, this is your guy.

The New Series
The Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston)
Welcome to the 21st century, Doctor Who! The Ninth Doctor is a bit of a tough guy. He's got a chip on his shoulder and a tendency to keep people at arm's length. He's also the one who introduces the Bad Wolf plotline, which is just as confusing as it sounds. If you're looking for some action-packed, modern Doctor Who, this is your guy.
The Tenth Doctor (David Tennant)
Ah, the Tenth Doctor. The one, the only, the Doctor who made us all fall in love with the show. He's got a big heart, a big smile, and a tendency to run when things get tough. He's also the one who introduces the Weeping Angels, which are basically the scariest things ever. If you're looking for some emotional, heart-wrenching, edge-of-your-seat Doctor Who, this is your guy.
The Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith)
And then there's the Eleventh Doctor. The one who's always wearing a bow tie and a fez. The one who's always saying "geronimo!" and "allons-y!" The one who's always getting into trouble. If you're looking for some quirky, fun, Doctor Who, this is your guy.
The Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi)
The Twelfth Doctor is a bit of a change of pace. He's older, more serious, more introspective. He's also the one who introduces the Nardole, who's basically a robot with a sense of humor. If you're looking for some darker, more complex Doctor Who, this is your guy.
The Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker)
And finally, we have the Thirteenth Doctor. The first female Doctor. She's a bit of a mystery, but she's got a big heart and a tendency to make friends with everyone she meets. She's also the one who introduces the Judoon, who are basically rhino police officers. If you're looking for some fresh, new, Doctor Who, this is your guy.
And there you have it, folks! All the Doctors, in order. From the grumpy old man to the fresh-faced woman, they've all got their own unique quirks and qualities. So, which one's your favorite? Let me know in the comments below!
Until next time, keep your sonic screwdrivers charged and your TARDIS keys handy. Allons-y!
