Alright, gather 'round, folks. We're about to embark on a musical journey that'll make you say, "Well, how about that!" We're talking about the one, the only, the Piano Man himself - Billy Joel. Now, you might be thinking, "I've heard his songs on the radio, but how many albums has this guy actually sold?" Well, buckle up, 'cause we're about to find out!

Let's Start at the Beginning

Picture this: it's 1971, and a young Billy Joel is just starting out. He's got a piano, a dream, and an album called "Cold Spring Harbor". Now, I'm not saying it was a flop, but let's just say it didn't exactly set the world on fire. It was like trying to start a campfire with damp matches - it took a while.

But hey, everyone's got to start somewhere, right? And Billy wasn't about to let a little thing like a slow start stop him. He kept on truckin', and in 1973, he dropped "Piano Man". Now, we're cookin' with gas!

Rise of the Piano Man

Suddenly, Billy Joel was everywhere. His songs were playing on every radio station, and his concerts were selling out faster than hotcakes at a pancake convention. People were going crazy for the Piano Man, and his albums were flying off the shelves like they were on sale at a Black Friday blowout.

But just how many albums did he sell? Well, let's take a look at some of his most popular records:

• Piano Man (1973) - Over 7 million copies sold worldwide
• The Stranger (1977) - Over 10 million copies sold worldwide
• 52nd Street (1978) - Over 7 million copies sold worldwide
• Glass Houses (1980) - Over 5 million copies sold worldwide

And those are just a few of his most successful albums! When you add up all the sales from his entire discography, you're looking at some serious numbers. We're talking tens of millions of albums sold worldwide. That's more albums than you could fit in a library - or even a really, really big bookstore.

But Wait, There's More!

Now, you might be thinking, "Okay, so Billy Joel sold a lot of albums. Big deal. Lots of people sell lots of albums." Well, hold onto your hats, because here's where things get really interesting. You see, Billy Joel isn't just a successful musician - he's also a pretty savvy businessman.

In 2010, he made a deal with Sony Music Entertainment that gave him ownership of his master recordings. That means that every time one of his songs gets played on the radio, streamed on Spotify, or used in a commercial, he gets a nice little chunk of change. And with over 150 million records sold worldwide, that's a lot of money!

But here's the kicker: Billy Joel didn't just keep all that cash for himself. Oh no, he's got a heart of gold, that one. He started the Billy Joel Foundation, which has donated millions of dollars to various charities and causes. Talk about a class act!
