Walter started his acting career in the silent film era. Can you imagine? No dialogue, just pure, unadulterated physical comedy. It's like trying to tell a joke using only interpretive dance - not an easy feat, let me tell you!

But Walter was a natural. He won three Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor - yes, you heard that right, three! He was the first person to achieve this feat, and it wasn't until 2002 that someone else (that would be Christopher Walken) tied his record. Talk about leaving a legacy!

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Walter's estate was valued at around $1 million when he passed away in 1974. Now, that might sound like a lot, but when you consider that he was one of the most successful actors of his time, it's actually quite surprising.

So, what happened to all that money? Well, it turns out that Walter was a bit of a philanthropist. He donated a significant chunk of his fortune to various charities and causes close to his heart. Plus, let's not forget that he was married to the same woman, Ruth, for over 50 years, and they had three kids together. I'm sure a fair bit of that money went towards keeping that happy family running!
