How Old Was Ed Gein In Monsters

Let's Get Spooky: How Old Was Ed Gein When He Became a Monster?

Alright, gather 'round, folks. Today, we're diving into the creepy, crawly world of true crime, but don't worry, we're keeping it light and fun. We're talking about Ed Gein, the man who inspired some of Hollywood's most chilling characters. You might know him as the real-life 'Leatherface' or 'Psycho's' Norman Bates. But how old was this monster in the making?

Born Normal, Raised Strange

Ed Gein was born on August 27, 1906, in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Now, here's where it gets interesting. Young Ed wasn't always a monster. In fact, he was a pretty normal kid. His mom, Augusta, was a strict religious nut, and his dad, George, was a drunkard who died when Ed was just 10. So, Ed and his older brother, Henry, were raised by a woman who believed in the power of prayer and the sin of fun.

Ed's childhood was about as exciting as a bowl of cold oatmeal. He spent most of his time helping his mom with chores and reading adventure novels. His brother, Henry, on the other hand, was a bit of a wild one. But sadly, Henry died in a mysterious fire in 1944, leaving Ed all alone with his mom.

The Monster Unleashed

After Henry's death, Ed's life took a dark turn. He started digging up graves, making suits out of human skin, and creating 'decorations' for his house using body parts. Eww, right? But here's the thing, folks. Ed didn't start his killing spree until he was in his 50s!

You heard it right. Ed's first known murder was in 1954, when he was 48 years old. He killed two women, Bernice Worden and Mary Hogan, and used their bodies to create his gruesome 'art.' So, when Ed became a monster, he was already a grown man with a full head of gray hair.

Why Does This Matter?

Now, you might be wondering, 'Why does this matter, and why should I care?' Well, here's the thing, folks. Ed Gein's story is a reminder that monsters aren't born, they're made. And it often takes a combination of isolation, mental illness, and a whole lot of bad luck to turn a person into a monster.
